“No knowledge is more crucial than knowledge about health. Without it, no other life goal can be successfully achieved.” ~Joint Committee on National Health Education Standards (United States)
The purpose of Health Education is to develop skills that will enhance life. Students learn the crucial aspects of decision making, healthy habits, and high risk behavior in Health Education. Joyce Fetro’s philosophical viewpoint is that, “health education is an ongoing, dynamic process that changes as individuals and helath issues change.” I believe that Health Education is always changing, always meeting the new issues concerning our lives. It is so important to educate youth on important health issues because they are the future of our societies.
To Be an effective Health Educator, one must guide students in analyzing all health information given to them. This can be difficult in societies that continually provide mixed messages. We then arm our students with decision making skills in order to make choices that are healthy for them and will create healthy habits for their future.
My goal as a health educator is to improve health knowledge, attitude, skills and behavior. I want to positively influence the health behavior of individuals and communities as well as the conditions that influence their health.
